Mother cannot stay permanently in son’s flat, rules German court

A German court ruled on Wednesday that the mother of a university student was not allowed to stay permanently at her son’s flat, if his flat mates do not want her there.

The student’s flat mates in the western university city of Munster had called the police to remove their friend’s mother from their shared habitation.

The woman had been asked by her son to feed his cat while he was on holiday, but then decided to move in. She later demanded damages for pain and suffering caused by police officers when they removed her from the flat by force.

However, the court rejected the woman’s request, saying it had been necessary for police to use force to establish the flat mates’ rights.
